Bland to Bright Beauty

Joan had gone to a get together in her neighborhood. There she was inspired by her friend’s home that we had previously helped to make a pleasant place with our interior design. She and Rod recently moved to SC, and like so many people who move into a new house, she was having a hard time making the new space her own while also trying to make the furniture fit and flow. Joan has an exciting personality, and as soon as anyone sees her refrigerator they can clearly see that she is bold and bright with a fun sense of humor. She is drawn to eclectic artwork like that of Bansky. Her husband Rod is easy-going and for the most part just wanted his spot on the sofa to be in front of his new jumbo TV. The floor plan of this house had some challenges that were causing her to be frustrated and disappointed that her new home wasn’t a place that she was proud of. Rod and Joan, along with their lively doodle pup Rex (aka Wrecks) went away and left us with the keys to their house for the weekend. Buddy the cat watched quietly in between naps as we completely transformed their space from bland to bright and beautiful. Slater Painting LLC did a great job of changing the wall color from a buttery bland to crisp and clean with Benjamin Moore’s Palest Pistachio 2122-60. This gave us a blank canvas as a backdrop for all the colorful décor and artwork. Our strategy was to take the shapes, colors, and patterns in the art, furniture, finishes, and accessories that they already had and repeat those over and over again in the open floor plan until they all made sense. It was so fun to see it come together. At first it seemed to be chaos, but each item added - whether it was a pillow, rug, light fixture, accessory, curtain, or piece of art - started to harmonize. The outcome was a Practical Update that was the perfect expression of Joan and Rex. Rod was beside himself with the results, but mostly he and Buddy were just glad that we had left their favorite seats right in front of the TV. Now their home is such a fun, beautifully bright, and pleasant place that you can’t help but smile when you visit.
