“It’s just such a Hodgepodge Lodge.” That was the first thing Allyn said when she introduced me to their home. Joe and Allyn moved to South Carolina with their yellow lab, Lacey, a few years ago. Over time, they had collected family heirlooms, original artwork, and meaningful decor passed down through generations. They also had a collection of decorative accessories that Allyn lovingly referred to as “tchotchkes.” While every piece held sentimental value, they were scattered in a way that made it hard for her to tell me their meaning. My goal was to organize these important pieces and create a home that felt intentional, warm, and easy to live in. Allyn had discovered our interior design work through a friend’s home and reached out to us for help with a Practical Update. This interior design project began in the TV room. Jesse with Handyman & Woodworks of Greenville designed and installed custom built-in bookcases that now anchor the space. These custom shelves provide storage and display for books, heirloom decor, and memory-filled accessories. The result is a cozy den with a timeless library feel. To enhance the atmosphere, we saturated the room with a rich deep color. Certa Pro painted the walls and custom bookcases in Sherwin-Williams Attitude Gray (7060). Additional painting included the home office in Sherwin-Williams Rainwashed (6211) and the hallway and living areas in Sherwin-Williams Tres Naturale (9101). These color choices created continuity throughout the home. Joe and Allyn had recently purchased their sofas and living room rug before beginning the project. For this open concept living space, we used the rug as the foundation for the overall design. From there, we elevated their existing furniture and artwork, layered in new furnishings, and created a cohesive space that reflects both their style and their family history. Joe, Allyn, and Lacey left town for the weekend while we completed the interior design installation. When they returned to Hodgepodge Lodge, they walked into a pleasantly curated space where every heirloom and memory had a place. Today, their home tells a clear and beautiful story that they proudly share with family, friends, and new neighbors.
