Right Now

Sheila has been a real estate agent for over 30 years. She and Walter downsized into a home that wasn’t their “forever home” but was the “right home for right now”. Having worked in real estate for such a long time she knew many interior designers. She wanted help to make this “for right now” house into a home that she could be proud of in the meantime. A few different designers created plans for her, but she was frustrated that they didn’t listen to her requests. She had seen my work when she sold our house and asked if Pleasant Places could help her. One thing they were sure they did not want to do was invest in changing the paint color when they knew they weren’t going to be there long enough for it to be worth the expense. They also wanted to use as much of the furniture and furnishings that they already had as possible. However, during her consultation she repeatedly said, “I know this piece probably won’t “work” so I can get rid of it”. I told her to keep everything. I wanted to exceed her expectations and use as much of it as we could. Sheila and Walter went on vacation for a week and left us the keys to their house. While they were gone, we went from room to room rearranging their furniture and décor while adding to what they had with a few smaller furniture pieces, accessories, and artwork, but we were able to use every single décor item that they already owned. They were both blown away with the results of The Practical Update Package. It looked like a completely different house. It was fresh and beautiful, but it was also very familiar. Pieces that Sheila was convinced wouldn’t “work” now made complete sense. Walter loved the space, but most of all he was just happy that Sheila was happy. Some houses are “forever homes”, and some houses are “just for right now”, but even just for right now houses can still be pleasant places.
